John III Sobieski was King of Poland, and the celebrated victor over the Turks at the Battle of Vienna — a triumph against our own arms which history has not let fade. A shrine dedicated to him displays a pristine karabela Saber within a case of glass, a mark of his consequence and of his valour in the field; the sabre keeps its excellent condition still, a relic of the man's legacy.
Within a Private Library there was found a Malkoç Family Banner tied to Sobieski's name, which the more presses his place in the record; and among the artifacts recovered was a memoir attributed to Mehmed II, a sign of the broader current of history in which Sobieski moved. Such objects speak to the weight he laid upon the history of the region, and to his standing as a foremost leader in the conflicts of his day.
