Mehmed II is named in a metal-framed memoir found among the effects of Hayriah, the East African leader of tomb-raiders. The memoir is some several hundreds of years old, and carries no small archaeological worth: it holds a correspondence between Mehmed II and Vlad Tepes touching the rule of Wallachia, wherein they treat of hostages — Vlad Tepes and Radu among them. That exchange throws its light upon the political dynamics of the age.
