The large mirror lies submerged a little beneath the surface of the water, set near the edge and held at an angle, some seven feet in height and three to three and a half feet across.
Gizem gazed into the mirror and beheld there an unfamiliar soldier of East Asian cast, a fur cap upon his head and a bow slung at his back. When she waved, the soldier took down his bow, yet gave no word in answer, nor any sign that carried through the water and the glass. Gizem afterwards tossed a piece of baklava toward the mirror, at which something thrashed below and for a moment blotted out the reflected soldier. The company then went their way; though Miray, later, ran back toward the mirror.
