Nadia was a human woman known for her practice of magic, and it was that practice which in the end brought her death at the hands of Ahra 'the Wolf' and her associates. She had suffered fits that set fire to more than one house and worked other mischief besides — the marks of a woman struggling, and failing, to master the powers within her.
Her husband, Alexander, grieved her deeply, and would say that she had been killed in cold blood for no crime but her magic. In the wake of her death he turned first toward revenge, yet came to see that he might do better to help another in her memory — some young soul afflicted, as she had been, with a magic beyond controlling. It was this bond to Nadia that turned him from vengeance to guidance, and moved him to take up the mentoring of another in her stead.
