The permanent-entry coins, known familiarly as "fast passes," are a species of currency that grants a standing right of entry to certain places, and to the undercity above all. The company came by them after some bargaining, overpaying for the privilege of easy passage; and by this the need to render the usual fee at each visit was done away with. The coins much eased their coming and going, and let them range through the undercity the more freely and to better effect.
