The Upper City presents a mingling of bustling markets with quiet, cluttered alleyways, giving onto a variety of warehouse fronts and dwellings of the upper storeys. Its streets are often the less busy, and certain quarters grow emptier by degrees, in contrast to the fuller life of the Undercity below. The air is of the common urban sort, warm and humid perhaps, as befits a district of markets.
Its inhabitants are a various people, the mirror of a society of many nations. The quarter is known for its warehouses and its upper-storey residences, a place where trade and dwelling intermingle. Beings of the supernatural, such as the albasti, have been met with in its alleyways, which argues that the Upper City is a stage for the extraordinary no less than the ordinary. Reports of strange doings in the local graveyard hint at some bond between the Upper City and the mysterious workings that trouble its people.
