The New Sekban Compound — the Ghost's headquarters — is a compound set within the Undercity, entered by an open arched gate kept by an orcish figure and a halfling in fatigues cut after the Sekban fashion. Within, open-air and enclosed rooms alternate — chambers for strategy, a training yard, spaces for conference. The whole is laid out to a modern military design, its strategy-rooms hung with maps of famous battles, and the force it houses styled as a modernised "new army" in the Sekban mould. Its library is curated with military histories of a high standard.
A cafeteria serves communal meals to a mixed body of recruits, many of them of no human kind. The air carries at once the smell of powder and burnt residue and the homelier savour of fresh bread and stew. Throughout the compound the recruits are at their tactical drills and their councils of strategy. Their leader, Alemdar Mustafa Pasha, receives visitors in a curtained office to speak of unity and of strategy, and there put a request for common cause with the Janissaries. The compound is, in sum, a hub of military organisation and of recruitment, bent upon readiness for a conflict it thinks may come, whilst keeping up a public face of enmity with the other factions.
